LIKE A WELL-OILED MACHINE

It takes considerable skill to do what we do. It’s not rocket science, but transportation is certainly a complex art. As Deb Shemano, SCM's 20-year operations manager, describes it: "It's like a jigsaw puzzle made out of jello."

Each day, we put at least nineteen vehicles on the road manned by well-trained, adept and friendly drivers. Back at the office, our veteran dispatch and scheduling supervisors are fine-tuning the coordination of over 400 trips, solving problems large and small. Our fleet team orchestrates everything from oil changes to transmission repairs to washing and waxing. And our management and administrative teams keep the business and workplace engines humming.

There’s an awful lot of joy to getting the whole thing done. What do we enjoy most? Talking to our riders.

• “Mrs. Raymond, the van is outside, are you still going to the doctor today?”
• “Hi Eleanor. You’re done with your appointment? Ok, we’ll let the driver know, hon.”
• “Let me check with the driver Mr. Watts…. Oh, he’s 5 minutes away.”
• “Helen, we’re just checking that you got home safe. How was the trip?”
